Teaching Money Sense!

Updated: Nov 1, 2019

Afternoons are not easy when your kids are at the age where they skip their naps and want your attention to play with them.

What better opportunity than this to teach them money sense!

Role play begins where the parent is the shop keeper and the child the customer.

We started with the identification of the coins and arranging them from smallest to largest, likewise the value of the coin follows (eg. 5 cents is the smallest gold coin, followed by 10 cents the second smallest silver coin). This forms the price tag of each car.

Thereafter, the child will bring a customer (which is a matching dog i.e a police dog would definitely want to buy a police car). As a shopkeeper, I will charge the price as per the price tag of the car. This is where the child identifies 5 cents in his bag of coins so that he can purchase the right the car.

We had great fun with shopping (of course who doesn’t :) and took turns being the seller and customer :)

Try this with your kid today!
